Alchemy
„Alchemy” is the reinterpretation of a
commercial object – the machine for selling candies. It is functional, thus,
instead of a 0,5 RON coin, the public receives a rusted nail – small letter,
impossible to read.
We often modify the value of things by
simply deciding to buy them. Through my installation, in a sort of reversed
consumerism, we transform into gold the common metal.
The nails used for this work were once
part of an object or of a construction, of something useful. They bear the
energy invested to hold together two elements, but also the energy used to take
them apart. These nails are freed of use and, as usage gives the meaning of
objects, they are freed of any purpose, ready to be transformed into anything
else, why not gold?
Or in letters, in an alphabet no one
understands, but which brings back memories. The eye moves from one sign to the
other, without being able to explain anything, recreating the child`s surprise
while looking at the pages of a book before having learned to read.

metalul comun.
