NeoNlithic Barbie - modified Barbie doll, silk, wooden box, light

This work combines two representations of the woman: the body - made to appear as if it had been created during the time of the Cucuteni culture (starting from 5.500 B.C.) and the head - a contemporary image of the standard beauty. I wanted to emphasize the contrast between the two materialities - a rough, imperfect one, shaped by the passing of time, made up of natural materials and the other one, perfect, polished, made of plastic. On the other hand, the Barbie doll was issued in so many forms and costumes so, why not, a Neolithic one?

Countdown to Cucuteni - wood, electronic chronometer, metal figures, light
This work displays an electronic chronometer which turns back time until approximately 7.000 years ago when, on Romania s territory, the Cucuteni culture was developing. The two metal figures are, actually, two useful objects - tools for taking the beet out of the ground. They were chosen for their resemblance to the antropomorph creations of the Cucuteni culture.

Hieroglyphs - plaster, wood, traces of old nails recovered from construction sites, light
The luminous signs resulted from pouring plaster on rusted nails and, then, extracting them from the material.

NeoNlithic Fairy - synthetic cotton, white lace, light
The work was inspired by the form of a statue created during the Neolithic period, the lace accentuates the idea of femininity.

Stellar calendar - wood, copper, kaleidoscopes, light
The cylinder on the wooden support contains four kaleidoscopes and their changing images can be observed looking though the small holes and slowly spinning the object with the help of the exterior wheels. The work was inspired by the Nebra disk and it recreates, as a metaphor, the experience of the primitive man observing the subtle changes on the sky. It is a toy-astronomical observatory.

The NeoNlithic project was initiated by the Wood Be Nice Workshop and co-financed by the AFCN (Administration of the National Fund for Culture) and had as main objective supporting the artistic creation meanwhile emphasizing the cultural heritage and the aestethic reinterpretation of the Cucuteni and Hamangia cultures. The exhibition took place at the Romanian Cultural Institute in Bucharest, 15-21 October 2019 (https://neonlitic.ro/2018/10/08/vernisajul-expozitiei-neonlitic-icr-15-octombrie).
